cooler temperatures are such a relief!

the Worthington Glacier recedes more and more each year.  need to see what photo's i took of it years ago.  there is a trail that used to run right along side it...now its just out there.
Tusker got to play in some snow.  these are all from the road trip.
I've just done some dog park walks this week.  reading, reading and more reading.  waste of time i guess, but some days we all need a break from the usual.
it finally cooled off.  today was down right pleasant.  even had some misty rain fall down.  minimal but it was still good to see.
i am currently on call.  really should go cook just in case they call me back before the shift starts...they do that.  the other time I'm on edge is right after the shift starts.  sometimes they have a no show or they have someone show up feeling ill.
so things can change.  it's hard to not say yes to an on call.  especially this summer where i haven't taken any days off, officially anyway.
students are losing state scholarships due to what is going on in our state government.  it could also impact accreditation in some fields.  studies seem to show if kids need to go out of state for a decent education, they do not return.
the governor called for an emergency session in Wasilla, so the Legislature was supposed to have voted in the Capitol many members were rebelling and staying in Wasilla.  it's a mess, brought on by the GOP lawmakers in our state.  what a joke.  the same mess happened in Oregon recently.  the GOP just opted to disappear, literally, to avoid the vote.  this made it impossible to get the votes needed.  what a party of babies.  got to get their way or else.  they all need balloons made of them in diapers like the biggest baby of all, trump.
Homer looks good so perhaps I'll try to get a dog room for my next stretch off and let the pups play in the ocean again.  they love that.
still fires of course, rain is expected i think so that is hopeful.  the fire in the interior is the largest in the nation at this time...not something any of us aspire to though.
not a good year for small planes i fear.  seems like far too many crashes this year.  another small plane crashed at Bethel.  thankfully they all survived.
these budgets...for all those complaining about how poor our nation is...we have literally spent trillions on wars....! i got no issue with having a strong military but this is ridiculous, we can afford to take care of our own people.  we choose not to. the fiscally responsible GOP has done a grand job of raising the deficits again.  they are great at that.
the guy in charge of preventing the trafficking of women and children let a guy go in Florida with the sweetest deal ever.  next to zero time and most of that was spent being allowed to leave prison nearly every day to go to work...really?  that guy was a serial molester of young girls...our pussy grabber potus has yet to denounce any other misogynists...since he is one of them.  of course, the GOP seem to just look the other way.
Clinton has consensual sex with a woman in the oval office and he is the more abhorrent womanizer out there...this guy has staff to recruit girls for him and they make excuses.  their potus makes ridiculous excuses for the things he says and has done, denies all and they just give him a pass.  voting for someone is giving them a pass on this bad behavior.
a judge prevented the Justice Department lawyers from leaving or being booted out over the census fight.  today the potus seems to have finally caved on his adding of the citizenship question to the 2020 census.  he also lost his fight on being allowed to block twitter critics.
gop babies in Virginia made an abrupt end to discussions on gun control in their legislature.  when you can't reason, walk away.  when you don't get your way, walk away.  refuse to abide by the wishes of the people.
a guy set up a tent by the train tracks in Denali National Park.  when the staff approached the tent the guy shot himself.
the GOP screwed over Kansas a while back but they have refused to learn the lessons from the mess that state has been left in. so stubborn.
meanwhile the Dems continue to call witnesses who refuse to testify.  trump may be donating his salary but he's more than made up for that in hiring extra legal teams to save him from the oversight that should be happening.  he's also more than made up for it in golf expenses.  lets also note that his 4th of July party cost tax payers a bundle and he still hasn't even paid back DC for the expenses for his inauguration bust of a party.
Mueller is up to testify soon.  not sure what they will accomplish with that.  the folks who will listen are the ones who are willing to read the report, so no minds will be changed as those who wish to believe the potus innocent will remain willfully ignorant of the contents of the report.
last night i dreamt that my house was burglarized.  fortunately, the criminals accidentally left their coat with their id in side.  haha. so a happy ending to my dream at least.
the fire in Anchorage was most likely started in a homeless camp.  funds would be less for the homeless assistance with the new budget.  i know folks on the GOP do not like to use government funds to help their fellow citizens, especially those that they tend to look down upon, but when you do not invest up front in others it generally comes back to bite all of us.
so we will have more homeless die of exposure this winter...i guess for many they would say so what they die, it was their own choice to be homeless anyway. I'm sure that Jesus would be thrilled with that way of thinking, but there it is.  decrease the population decrease the funds required to care for that population.
raids are to take place in large cities this weekend to kick out illegals.  more are coming over because this administration has opted to stop helping other nations in Central America...this causes more to flee.  so a self fulfilling deal there as well.  it requires outside of the box thinking over neanderthal thinking to come to decisions that will actually be helpful.
trump wants to help those with kidney failure...perhaps he start by helping fix the ACA and lower the cost of insulin.  most kidney failure in this nation comes from diabetes and poor control of sugars.  like tossing a twig to stop a flood.
better get moving on dinner i guess.  i have bitched enough. there is just so much to bitch about.  every day there is some new crap that adds to the crap pile.
above is the edge of the ice on the Matanuska Glacier.  this is on the way back, below are pictures closer up.

just scenery on the return trip. it was so exciting to have clouds and rain clouds
it made me happy to smell the rain in the air
Ivy swims in the silty water
this lake in front was just kettle ponds previously with a river coming out...now the lake is really quite large.
the glacier used to come to the edge of that land in the foreground when i first started coming here.
 it's really far back now.
not sure how much land the folks who run this glacier access own.  their relatives were pretty smart.
they battle it out with some other land owner in the area.  that owner has posted signs on the road down warning of how dangerous it is
just trying to keep folks from going down there.  a losing battle...though in truth the road is a bit sketch in places.
 pups enjoying the cool water

loved the flowers against the grey water
these were all taken on the way out.  it had rained there as i was driving back.  no point returning for a second day

look how big this lake is though.
I'm not sure why there is that white stuff on the land.  a girl i was speaking to had tasted it and said it wasn't salty...which is what i would have expected too.

 Tusker takes on the silt.

a better look at the grey
she is still grey.  off to cook.  sorry for bitching.  it must be done to clear my head.
grateful for: A. lazy days and good books to read  B.  the beauty that is all around us  C. the fire fighters...keep them safe and help these fires stop.
