iditarod in Anchorage...

may have a buyer for the drum set. so many scammers out there.  she says it's for a 16 year old birthday.  that is the sort of buyer i am interested in. it's a great starter set.
that is an Iditacat up there. haha. so woke early and headed downtown in the subzero temperatures to enjoy the festivities.
only 33 teams in. many of the older ones have given it up. i think the oldest ages i saw were early 50's. so hopefully, the numbers grow in the next few years again.  i think covid and the economy tapped a few out. dog food is expensive.
wandered around the set up area for a bit and then watched several teams head to the start line from the set up area.
we did see DeeDee. she was on the trailing sled for one team. i'm sure there were others out there.
keep having to stop and take more photos of the drums.  told her to make me an offer for all the cymbals and hardware. more fun for the kid to be able to hit those drums with cymbals.
hard to look at Tusk in these photos and think he may have been ill but acting just totally normal. i look at this photo's and think, is his coat duller than it should be?
this cat is not losing weight though. he's put on some pounds so perhaps. maybe that will keep him in the yard more.
the fence between houses is in bad shape. i think the snow is holding it up.  did speak to neighbor so that will be an expense this summer. we plan to just split it. i'll see if i can get them to replace the front part and a gate to my side.
back to Iditarod. after i watched several teams i headed off to the dog park as there is a spot the teams go past that makes them take a curve pretty tight.  possibility of spills. no spills but i did make it there by the time team 4 was just passing so pretty good time.
a cute little girl we met downtown was an iditarider. i think my hospital may have sponsored her. happy to see she made the turn well.  she was in the sled of one of the Berington twins. they are very experienced though have never really been competitive. it's just a vacation the twins seem to enjoy taking together each year with their dogs. the little girl was recovering from cancer treatment.
view from my place.  it's pretty sweet i must say.
it warmed up over zero so that was nice. still had a chill when i got home so i snuggled into the bed with the heated mattress pad on.
after i met friends for a walk with the dogs as they were in from Palmer for the dogs.  we went to University Lake.
Sunny was a bit crazy and the dogs had a good time out there. at the end there was a pit bull that was on leash but the owner could barely contain.  that dog should not be a dog park.  i put my dogs on leashes and we ended up taking a side trail to get past the dog. last thing i want is my dogs getting killed by some maniac dog with a ill trained human. really it's the human.  some breeds just aren't for anyone.
i was just telling my friends that i watch the behavior of each dog we encounter.  you really need to do that as the human. best way to keep your pets safe is to see any danger before they encounter it and act accordingly.
these are from last May now.
clam gultch.
i will sleep well tonight.  then we will be off to Willow tomorrow for another day of dogs.
should look at the photos i took on the big camera tonight. may just crash though.
gotta pay bills first. it was pay day yesterday.
i did spend a little at the native craft fair yesterday.  there was this cute little doll sized kupsuk. not sure how to spell that...or say it probably. i also saw this little hanging ornament thing.  it was a walrus embroidered on a seal skin with polar bear fur around it.
so added a few things to the house....that i know i'm trying to declutter.  haha.  that is how it goes though.
out with crap. in with cool stuff.  or yesterdays cool stuff is now todays crap.
there are some kitchen cabinets that i want to clear out of stuff that i don't use. leftovers from previous sets. clear out some space for things that i do use more often.
a fun day was had by all.
love these big rocks out there.
they come and go with the tides.
barnacles. filter feeders.
went back down to turn the light out.  the potential buyer says they will ponder and contact me tomorrow. i said to make an offer for the drum set with hardware/cymbals. will see if i hear from them again.  that is the perk of not desperately needing to sell something.
these are on a boat trek i believe. looks like it anyway.
things get mixed together. it's all cell phone shots.  i really don't pull out the big camera as often as i should. hopefully, life will get more back to normals for me.
not going to get rid of my camera.  maybe the old film camera's cause i don't see myself using those again. maybe i'll call the old camera shop in town. i hear they will put old cameras up for sale and take a cut of the sale.  do people buy old film camera's? not sure.
there's the boat.
a beautiful day on the water.
do love to get out there. sometimes it can be rough waters...this day looked pretty sweet.
we do not always get this lucky.  i think this day we only saw one humpback and several killer whales.
best get off and pay those bills.  dang bills.
random beach shot. this one at Kincaid
haven't been to Kincaid for a bit.  should hit the beach again.
have a good one.  hoping for safe travels for humans and dogs to Nome tomorrow.
thankful for a. fun times at the Iditarod b. a potential buyer for the drums c. artists
