If you live your life, something is bound to kill you...

so it's best to do the things you want to do even if they scare you some times.
these are from last March still. i just finished my stretch of work. 3 in ICU, one was on call, shortly called back to be a sitter.  nice overtime on that one. then last night i was in PICU.
i usually leave the pediatric iv starts to those who do them all the time. nobody anywhere had been able to get this toddler...so i said i'd give it a try but they use lights and i said i'd look without it. i popped that in and was the "hero" of the night. i had to get her to tape it up because they are just tape ninja's. trying to keep iv's in toddlers...it's a gift.  it lasted all night so i was feeling quite happy with myself.
walks most days between. i was also able to get education done when i had that sitter night.
had a bit of a headache one of my days off.  so those days off the walks were late in the day. it finally went away.  i do blame the headache on the stress of one walk where we ran across a moose that was on the other side of Campbell Creek.  the dogs got hyper excited about it.  strange as we recently calmly walked past like 5 moose. so no idea what set them off but it was a lot of yelling and worry that the moose, that was getting pissed, would charge.
so trying to decide this stretch off. today we headed out to Powerline Pass area. it was wet and windy so i didn't do a long walk. the big wild beasts can get spooked in the wind so i opted not to have a repeat.  life does end up killing us all no matter what we do but it still doesn't mean you behave recklessly. :-)
just that you can't hold off on doing the things because they are scary or they may even kill you. i've been hiking in the woods with bears and moose for decades and my day may come but imagine if i avoided it all this entire time unless i had optimal conditions.  i can't always find people to join me on walks.
i ended up with 3 kids last night.  not a bad assignment though.  great help.  always love my peds/picu crew.  just the nicest people.
different units tend to attract different personalities.
i have met so many amazing people through this job.  co-workers and patients. you just get into peoples lives at a level that you never would in a regular job/life. it's also a stressful gig.  there are nurses striking in Minnesota i think.
we went from hero's to villians. more in the lower 48. things are worse in some states than others. i have always heard that things are terrible in the south. surprise
politics gets more and more insane as well. seems to really be ramping up out there and the folks in trumps orbit are getting hit with subpoenas. he met with a group at one of his golf courses. it reminded me of the last supper.  which will be his Judas. who will give him up?  sounds like Meadows has been cooperating.
so many investigations.  the secret documents are pretty damming.  no response as to why he had them just the usual blame everyone else and play the victim.  good chance he sold these or used the secrets for favors.  it's always about him.  could get really bad quickly.  the pillow guy had his phone taken.  i think they sent out 40 subpoena's. it really is nuts.
the governor of florida and texas are thinking they are cute by sending immigrants to states that have protections. only making more voters for the other side really. there are even some saying putting these folks with kids on planes and buses could violate laws...would love those two fools to go down for violations. take them all down.  really sick of the mess they are creating in this country.
the Queen of England passed away.  so Charles finally gets to be King. it means less and less but sadly with her gone their elitist dramas seem to be playing out more and more. not sure how that will play out.  many of the nations under the Queen seem to be showing more interest in becoming independent.  she had a good run.  not sure King Charles can pull it off. there is a guy in Austrailia who claims to be the love child of Charles and Camilla as teens...what could that mean for William and Harry? there have been the battles over Harry's wife...the pomp and circumstance is interesting but it does seem to be getting more ridiculous with the little drama's the media and the populance is focused on.
apparently the real cancel culture GOP folks are freaking out that the new cartoon mermaid is black. it's so bizarre that they scream about freedoms as they want to take away everyone else's freedoms. you are only free if you are white and wealthy. they want to push their religious agenda on everyone...oddly, the agenda they want to push seems totally counter to the message and teachings of the original Jesus.  oddly as well, they have had no issue lightening the skin tone of the Jesus of old into white with blue eyes...but are upset that a make believe mermaid could be black.
Ukraine has had a good week military wise...but as they retake their own land back from Russia they are once again finding the bodies of many who the russians have killed and tortured no doubt.  more rapes and murders.  mass graves.
there was some news out of russia that several leaders in various communities, i think i heard upwards of 70 had written a letter encouraging put to step down.  they may "leap" out of windows or find some other horrid fate but the fact that there are rumored to be some uprisings is positive.
the Queen had apparently made it known that trump was not to attend her funeral even as other former potus's were welcome.
several of these are from when my friend CR was here last summer for a visit.
Kennicott.  i hadn't been for a bit and she'd never been so it was fun to take her there.
we hiked to and on the glacier. i think she enjoyed that.
anyone comes in August will, of course, be shown a variety of mushrooms. those are starting to be less plentiful as fall colors and rot take over.
we also headed down to HOmer.
i'm debating what to do this week.  maybe look for hotels for Valdez and/or Homer for a last week of escapes and chasing fall colors.
this on the Kenai last year.
liked this black and white of CR on the hike last year.
such a beautiful place.
a co-worker last night was just there last week.  no doubt hit the colors of fall.
need to look at the tides as well. wasn't really looking that great tide wise on my stretches off. would love another Homer trek though.
will be time to winterize after this stretch. start to do some OT.  i've been texting with the tile guy about doing the upstairs bathroom.  then i could do doors and eventually windows...then i'll have to look a the outside more.  paint again.
i did pull up the pots from the front deck...the winterizing is beginning.
need to make some appointments. new tires for the Element, change tires on the CRV.
there is always so much to see and re-see. it's different every time you venture out.  we have had a lot of rain these past weeks which tends to dampen the desire to head out.  getting chilly at night so tenting is looking less of an option
did make some headway setting up our paypal for WARIS.  need to head to the bank to get that sorted out so i can get the paypal account set up.  it's past time to put some more effort in on the walrus stuff, hoping to get our lecture back at REI this spring. always a fun event. we need some new board members i think as well...so if anyone lives in Alaska and is interested in getting involved that would be cool.
the darkness is coming fast.  that is another reason those long drives are less exciting.  you can't see as much if it's dark.  sitting in a hotel because the sunset so early and rises late...i'd rather be home really.
with the rain catching the aurora's are less likely.
so we shall see.  each winter, each season has it's own life and it's own drama.
the moraine below.
some crazy teens swimming at Bishops beach last summer.  we don't get that hot here and the water is cold so ocean swimming is not all that common.
fun to see the kids brave it.
i better get to bed soon.  or decide what i'm doing.  that was the plan for tonight and clearly i haven't gotten too far on that.
we also did a rafting trek out at Spencer Glacier. so fun.  nice weather for that trek.
thankful for A. getting that IV...a proud moment.  B. that my patient didn't go into cardiac arrest the other night. very kind of them.  C. fall colors.  love, love, love the fall
