that is as Happy as i got that night...

i was working New Years Eve.  i actually didn't realize that midnight had passed. it was a strange night.  NICU cried wolf and madness happened.
lets see if you can follow this...NICU was apparently drowning so a Mother/Baby nurse was called in from home to take a mother/baby assignment from a float nurse.  that float nurse then came to Renal Care to relieve me of my assignment.  i was then sent to Peds to take over for that assignment.  that nurse was sent to NICU where she was informed that they didn't actually have an assignment for her but instead wanted her to do breaks.  she was called back like an hour later to take a patient in PICU.  a few hours later another Peds nurse that had previously been floated to NICU was called back to take my assignment so i could come take another patient in PICU.
did you follow that?  so i changed assignments every 4 hours. hard to keep track.
the last few nights i have been fairly lazy.  New Years night while i worked the snow began to fall.  we got at least 8 inches at my place.  alcohol and icy roads covered in snow made for wrecks.  not a good combo.  my drive home was a bit treacherous.  the snow was really deep on the side streets.
Ivy is nearly recovered from her bites to the ear and now Tusker is recovering from a nail which cracked off...but not completely.  the quick was showing.  it was painful, my boy was even growling at me a bit last night when i was trying to see how bad it was.
i warned the staff at the vets and now his chart is forever marked as "Muzzle".  my poor baby was just tender.  I'm not happy he is marked like this. he has never been mean at all.  now he has a record!!!  what a start to the new year.
the Skelly's got a serious dusting of snow.
my next night off i opted to chill and put a fire in the fireplace and bake.  used the kitchen aide to make it.  thanks Jeff and Wils.  I'm really happy i got a kitchen aid baking book as it has directions for how to use the machine and recipes to go with it.  so this was their bread.  not bad.  I'll need to work honing my skills.  i have a Paul Hollywood baking book coming.  i hear he goes into the why's and more detail into baking.  i also read that it's in metric so I'll have to figure that out. may need to buy a little cooking scale and temperature thing...
so far my baking skills do not merit it...but it is relaxing to bake and chill...at least you are watching tv while doing something else.
tv watching really does get a bad name. i always love the shamers...you know those who never watch tv and must make sure you know that they do not waste their time in this manner.  oh well.  i have actually learned a lot from tv but i have also totally relaxed from it as well.  what ever decreases your stress i say.  i do a combo of many things to keep the old work stress down...have had to have more with this potus.  he is a real stress inducer.
now he killed a top guy in Iran so that, no matter what he says in his press conference, is a declaration of war.  i mean if anyone assassinated one of our top people we would see it as an act of war.  as a matter of fact, i have written many times on here that while i would love to see a death in office, i do not want him to be assassinated as that would mean we would be forced to go to war and many would die.  already many will die because of his reckless acts.
imminent threat so they had to take him out...really.  sounds a bit like those WMD that turned out to be bull or what was it at the start of the Vietnam war.  more lies.  funny how the GOP go around trashing all our security details until they want to bomb and assassinate.  then suddenly...oh the FBI/CIA/Home security said it's an imminent threat.  right.
so the guy who ran on I'm going to get us out of the middle east because he's all about America First is sending more troops there.  the guy who tweeted multiple times about how Obama was going to start a war with Iran in order to get re-elected (he didn't) is going to start a war with Iran in hopes it will get him re-elected.  the guy who never served in the service but instead got his dad to pay off a dr to write he had bone spurs and couldn't serve, believes he knows more than generals and experts.
my bread rising by the fire...it's become my proving drawer.  i don't know if that is good or not but it seems to work.
above is the toe before taking him to the vets.  you can see a bit of the nail still clinging on just to the right of the red quick.
i am in no way saying this Iran general is a good guy...but our nation has, in the past, tried to avoid assassinations of actual leaders in position in other nations.  I'm not sorry he is dead, i am just opposed to the way this happened.  the lack of a plan, the lack of the involvement in congress in the decision making process.
this potus is known to lie, the GOP is known to lie, taking out people without bipartisan support...not a great idea.  it's all on them at this point anyway.  they are the ones who have allowed this nut job to continue in this role unchecked.  they are the ones who have created a dictator.  they are the ones who have given him their loyalty and their souls really.
these are gold cord hike this past summer.
it is also the GOP who will bear the responsibility of getting this man to leave office.  i still think there may be an assassination, but it will  be an inside job...a job done at the request of GOP but somehow twisted around to appear as if it was the dems or a dem sympathizer. i suspect he is beginning to outlive their needs.  at some point he just becomes a bother.
i mean McConnel has gotten a lot of judges put in place.  the deficit is now over 22 trillion i think...he's getting us into yet another long dragged out war no doubt.  you think Iraq and Afghanistan were a mess...Iran is large and much more organized.  they are also cruel and brutal to their own people. it's one thing dropping bombs, but it will be another thing when US citizens are caught and tortured to death.
tuskers nail fell mostly off.  it was suggested that i just get hemostats and rip it the rest of the way off.  i could not do that.  when you think about it...that is just one of the many torture treatments that have been done in the middle east to even their own citizens.  we really do not have the stomach in this nation to tolerate these acts perpetrated against our citizens.  it won't take long before the mothers of those tortured are crying out and nuclear bombs start dropping.  humans do horrible things to each other.  i remember going to the library as a teenager...i looked up torture.  I'd been doing quite a bit of reading about Vietnam and Prisoners of War...it was really eye opening to see the horrific things that humans do to other humans.  anything is possible.
humans are blood thirsty.  at least many are.  that is why there are many cheering this act today.  they want blood, get them before they get us.  fear is a great motivator. every act has a reaction though.  war is hell.  to cheer this act and to cheer the start of a war means you are willing to just accept the loss of life that comes with it...on both sides. i cheered that first night bombs dropped in Iraq...i learned later that in the end the more you kill, the more they kill.  many innocents were killed in the process.  we are all just pawns.  those who put the souls in danger stay safe at places like Mar A Lago and golf.  it's the way it is.
some were posting that this is what the military signs up for...many go in because, quite frankly, they do not have tons of options.  they do not go in with the hopes of getting a leg blown off or worse.  we should be doing everything we can to prevent loss of life, especially on our side.  kill, you get killed.  the folks in the middle east are also more interested in taking our civilians...they know that hurts us worse.
so this is where we are at.
local news...the Scandies Rose sank out of Kodiak on New Years Eve.  2 were rescued, 5 have not been found and are presumed dead.  very sad for all involved.  it was a crabbing vessel.
the iitoo withdrew us from a nuclear deal with Iran...he added sanctions. he's been gunning for war since he stepped foot in office.  the deal was not perfect but it was a start.  trump should have built on it.  now many lives will no doubt be lost.
Australia is suffering from multiple fires at this moment.  looks pretty awful.  so many animals lost.  a Navy carrier was rescuing some 4000 humans who were trapped by advancing fires.
the last 24 hours my back muscles have been totally cramping and going into spasms.  it happens from time to time.  a result of the winging scapula injury.  i felt pretty sure that a patient i had the other night might have a winging scapula.  it was super painful that first bit when it happened.  now i just get major knots secondary to the muscles trying to do what they weren't really meant to be doing. other muscles have had to do the duty of those lost to the damage.
i took a robaxin and will soon settle in with the heated mat and tennis balls that i will roll over the knots with.
by the time i can get into a massage therapist the knots will have abated.  just have to deal with it.
an avalanche has closed part of the Richardson Highway near Paxson.  not sure if it's re-opened yet.  the Seward was closed for a bit with the big storm.  that is open again.  a washed out road in Willow will probably not be opened until spring.  i think an ice dam gave way, causing flooding.
emails prove once again that trumps closest and one of a few aides that have been with him from the start has white supremacist ties.  he's, of course, the one doing most of the immigration policies.  yea, there isn't any racism in this administration.  amazingly, this guy must not be mentioned in most of the right news places as they have no clue who he is.  many have chosen to just remain ignorant of this fool.  they like the results so it's less painful to just look away at the truth of what sort of person he actually is i guess.
after my walk, i drove the back way home from hatchers Pass this day.
 it was a pretty day.
 there were several kite sailors.
a church in Eagle Rock, Ca used 5.3 million to clear medical debt of poor families...this is what churches should be doing with their money. helping others, not stock piling it.
there should be a cap on the amount of money any non-profit/religious organization can hang on to. that money should be going back to the people.  why are their own people suffering and struggling while they hold back cash.  it's baffling.  so good on this one church for giving back.

i do recall on this drive seeing many trees that are impacted by bark beetle.  many areas of that drive look ripe for a big fire to come through.
this is just a solo tree, there were many more.
it was actually eerie driving through some parts.
it really wouldn't take much to start it up and not much out there to stop it.
i better get moving.  reading some papers and catching up
but the pain is starting to get worse as i sit here.
more brown/dead trees coming into view.  at least there is the river there, which would be useful for getting water to tamp down a fire.
i think i heard snow crash on the deck.  will have to check.  don't think it's warmed up at all. says it's currently 11 below zero.
gonna be cold until at least next Wednesday.
look at all that bark beetle kill.
good night and good year.  hopefully, it gets better not worse...but i have my concerns.
grateful for A.  fresh snow B.  ability to take care of my pups and that they are doing reasonably well C.  the smell of fresh baked bread.
